Ideas for things to cook on a wood burning stove / oven

When DH and I bought this wood burning stove we had grand ideas about doing quite a good chunk of our cooking on it.... But we've done jacket potatoes and stew once and that's it...

One of my things I'd like to do is to make more use of it - but I really don't know what to cook in/on it....

Any suggestions?

You sound like me! We have that stove and I also had grand plans for cooking on it, not been too bad but not a great success either. I have done quite a few things; cookies, pizza, popcorn, chestnuts, spuds, stew, pasta, chips, rice. I've found that you sometimes need to put something metal under your pan so the item in question doesn't burn (I use the circle with holes in it from the bottom of my pressure cooker). Also, I think a lot of things benefit from having a door on the front of the stove - a baking tray held on with a strong magnet works fine for us.
So, really you can do most things in it they just take quite a bit longer (sometimes ages!) and need a bit more planning.
Good luck with it.

these are good You put the entire potjie in the fire and it will cook just about anything. It will slow cook on top of the fire too.

We use welders gloves to take it out.

oooh - there are even some that look like proper cauldrons with legs and everything... I won't be cooking dinner but brewing up love potions and obedient son potions :-)

Thanks for the suggestions - I think I need to be a bit more adventurous about it....
