Can I grill frozen sausages and bacon?

These are fresh sausages that I froze myself, not the ones you buy out of the freezer section in the supermarket.

The bacon I froze on a baking tray so the slices are seperate, not stuck together in a pile.

Yes..... I think, can't see why not. Sausages definitely, never done bacon before.

MindyMacready · 01/01/2012 12:32

errr, only if you defrost them first!

Auntiestablishment · 01/01/2012 12:34

Yes, just put the sausages on for longer on a lower heat so they have time to cook thaw in the middle!

valiumredhead · 01/01/2012 12:35

No need to defrost as long as they are thoroughly cooked.

Stick them in the oven on cool with the fan going for 10 mins and they'll be pretty much defrosted anyway.

I've grilled bacon from frozen before, no prob as it thaws so quickly. Not sure if sausages would burn before the middle was cooked though.

How long does everyone grill them for when frozen?

I would cook them in the oven, not under the grill - I usually oven sausages anyway, around 30 mins for thin ones & 35-40 for thick, so add 5-10 mins to cover the ice?

the bacon wouldn't take long to defrost anyway, it could sit thawing while the sausages are cooking & then be grilled normally at the end

Ponders · 01/01/2012 12:39

(you don't have to mess around turning saus in the oven, & they still get nicely browned)

valiumredhead · 01/01/2012 12:42

Yeah, I don't grill - bung them in the oven!

nappyaddict · 01/01/2012 12:53

Not keen on oven cooking myself, don't like them sat cooking in all that fat.

OP posts:
Ponders · 01/01/2012 12:54

you can put them on a grill rack on a baking sheet, then the fat will run off

Ponders · 01/01/2012 12:55

(or buy more expensive sausages = less fat Grin)

I've been doing sausages in the oven ever since we rented a place that only had a raeburn (the one that's like an Aga only with square hotplates), and will never go back to frying or grilling them. Best on a trivet though because of the fat oozing out. About 40 mins on about 160/170C fan for frozen, and obviously double check cooked through before eating!
