You can use flora or other soft marge or veg oil instead.

HellyBelly · 12/01/2006 17:15

Do have marg (stopped using a while back). Only oil I have is olive oil - ok??

Um... just use less butter? For some reason I have this notion that the fat is mainly there as a "carrier" for the flour or you'd never get it to mix with the milk...

moondog · 12/01/2006 17:16

Oil will do-for now.

CountessDracula · 12/01/2006 17:16

olive oil will be fine

CountessDracula · 12/01/2006 17:17

LOL @ measuring your flour and butter! I just lob it in!

crunchie · 12/01/2006 17:34

8g How do you measure 8g???

I just lob a tbsp butter/marg and a couple of flour and hope for the best

I think she must have a pair of those tiny extremely accurate scales, like drug dealers have.

Or so I've been told.....

CountessDracula · 12/01/2006 17:36

ooh yes

I'll have an eighth of stork and half an ounce of flora

moondog · 12/01/2006 17:38

lol

fishie · 12/01/2006 17:38

i think it should be fine with a bit less butter, the fat in the milk and cheese will lubricate too but you'll have to add the milk very carefully or it'll go unimaginably lumpy.

HellyBelly · 12/01/2006 17:47

I know - I chuck it in for us but when it's the kids, they have such a small amount I weight it. Tbh, don't make it that often as my mindee doesn't like it - just keep doing it every now and then to see if she's changed her mind .

ANYWAY, started shouting at dh upstairs for not telling me he'd put out the last butter and he told me he had - it was hidden! Found it and they are now eating so thanks!

Think I would have needed oil if not as I do the butter and flour first, then add the milk then cheese so it would have been a bit too lumpy.

Thanks again for the quick replies
