So excited about a meal that doesn't involve mash and tinned sweetcorn.

Am having a small dinner party (6 maybe 8) and was thinking about a starter that doesn't require any fiddling with just before hand.

So what about antipasti? Apart from parma ham and artichokes what else can I do?

What about some good mozzarella, really nice tomatoes and basil? I find that goes down well

What, like a salad? That sounds good actually, ta.

how lovely

goats cheese marinated in olive oil and thyme
served with a salad of radiccio, rocket, pomegranate seeds and walnuts
and a dressing of the marinade mixed with lemon juice

what are your other courses?

I'd offer soup...
mind you I don't like goats cheese or mozzarella...

I did a fab anti pasti on NYE for 8. We had parma ham, bresola (cured raw beef) and salami. Artichokes, olives and Melon. I also made roasted peppers the day before and drizzeled them in Balsamic vinegar on the night. We also had home made foccacia (but you can buy ready to bake) and Jamies Mozzerella stuffed lemons from his new book.

Get unwaxed lemons, top and tail them and cut in half. Cut out the lemon flesh to leave fat circles of rind. Put on greaseproof paper. Fill with a slice of Mozzarella, 1/2 cherry tomato, basil leaf and another slice of mozzerella. Bake for about 10 - 15 mins.

Yummy

oooo roasted peppers. And I saw the jamie lemons...cool.

I'm thinking lamb with roasted sweet potato and veg (not sure what) and then chocolate bread and butter pud made with broiche.

Then cheese, fruit and coffee.

And lots of nice wines...
