Something that ds (non-puree eating 10 month old) can eat as well as us.

Thank you!

I'm bumping this for you leogaela because I bought a box of quinoa after Gillian McKeith raved about it but dont really have the foggiest what to do with it

I boil 1 part quinoa to two parts water or stock (low salt for baby) for about ten minutes or until the grain starts to seperate. Turn off heat then put a lid on the pan for 5 mins or so.

Then do what you want with it. Treat it like rice. You can have it cold as a salad (with cheese, bits of pepper, roasted vegetables etc).

Or mix a sauce through it (eg cream and mushroom, tomoato and basil).

Apparently it makes nice porrige but I haven't tried that yet.

Thanks Spidermama will give it a go.

Mediterranean vegetables with Quinoa

(makes 2 servings for a 9 - 12 month old, increase the quantities accordingly)

1 teaspoon sunflower oil
1 tablespoon finely chopped onion
1/2 red pepper, deseeded and finely chopped
1/2 orange pepper, deseeded and finely chopped
1/2 medium courgetter, finely chopped
1/2 clove garlic, finely chopped or crushed
1 oz quinoa, rinsed well
1/2 teaspoon tomato puree
1/2 pint vegetable stock or water
1 tomato, skinned, deseeded and chopped
2 teaspoons finely chopped fresh oregano, marjoram or basil

Heat the oil in a saucepan, fry the onion for 4 - 5 minutes. Add the garlic, peppers and courgetter and fry for 3 minutes.

Stir in the quinoa, tomato puree and stock or water. Bring to the boil then cover the pan, lower the heat and simmer for 20 minutes or until the quinoa grains are soft. Add the chopped tomato and herbs, and cook uncovered for a further 3 minutes.

Mash or chop the mixture to the required texture for your child.

Yep. I'll be doing that. It didn't occur to me to cook the quinoa in with the veg.

That's tonmight's dinner sorted then.
