Herman the friendship cake - can I miss out a day?

Someone gave me a bowl of slop which they promise will turn out to be a fabulous apple cake. It's a 10-day process, but I will be away on day 10 and wondered if I could tweak it and cook it a day early. Today is day 8, so could I add day 9's ingredients tonight and cook it tomorrow?
Thanks if you have made it this far!

We have had Herman a couple of times. Missing a day never seems to have been a problem, and he tastes really nice.

Brilliant, thank you! I seem to remember my mother making something similar in the 70s, so am quite looking forward to seeing how it turns out. And then taking mum a slice on Monday Xmas Smile

as long as he's still alive I'm sure he won't mind missing a day ;-)

no, I kept stirring, adding etc on the wrong days (just being inept, not particularly busy Blush) but Hermann was fine, as were all his children Grin.

Personally, I thought the "cake" was more puddingy and we preferred it served warm with custard/ice cream.

Herman's yummy. Especially when you add candied peelWink

He is quite puddingy, especially if you add extra fruits.

You have taken me back to my childhood Smile
We had a similar thing I had forgotten all about
Thanks for the memory

I had one of these recently not realising it was a "chain cake".
I'm sure doing it a day early won't make that much of a difference. Makes very nice apple cake and bread. Didn't have the opportunity to give it to friends on day 10 so used th rest to make bread/ dumplings later.

freezes very well too and definitely yummy with custard!

Well, he worked out just fine and we seem to have polished off 3/4 already. Thanks for the advice!
