Syrup sponge -can I just add syrup to some sponge and warm it?

Title says it all really. I have a few slices of sponge in the freezer and was hoping to turn it into syrup sponge for pudding tonight but I have a little niggling feeling that it doesn't work.

I"m not civinced that it would work. Perhaps is you warm the syrup, pour over the sponge and let it soak a bit? Or make a sticky toffee type sauce for it?

It won't be like a proper syrup sponge but could be an acceptable pud

Thanks for your suggestion...ended up eating too much dinner and had no room for pudding at all!

Sponge is still in the freezer until I can decide what to do with it.
