That Nigella recipe - ham in coca cola

I'm sure this has been done to death. I've made it before and jolly good it is too. Has anyone ever made it with cherry coke and, if so, is it better?

I prefer it.

seems a fuller flavour (and I prefer to drink leftover cherry coke, rather than normal coke!).

and the smoked paprika/cherry jam glaze is lovely. adds quite a kick.

Ooh. That sounds good. For after the boiling stage. Mix paprika with the jam and spread it on, I take it.

I'm keen to try out this recipe using my slow cooker, however we just moved to Canada this summer and I haven't been able to find the same type of gammon joint that I could easily have picked up from any uk supermarket. They only seem to have already cooked hams, pork loin or largish ham hocks with the bone in. Has anyone ever managed to do her recipe with a ham hock instead?

Would I do it in the slow cooker for 5 hours or so then trim the fat, then bung it in a hot oven?

Help!

I am going to use my slow cooker too. I'm assuming you put it in, cover with coke and leave. And then glaze and roast. Not sure about the timing. I've only ever made ham in coke in an ordinary pan.

yes, after boiling for hours, mix smoked paprika with cherry jam, heat it (to loosen the jam, I guess) and slather on, then bung in oven for half an hour or so.

really lovely.

Haven't made it, but have eaten the cherry coke version. Delicious.
