Making a birthday cake for a party on Saturday - ok to make it on fri? When should I (butter) ice it?!

Somewhat of a novice here!! But made a fairly successful sponge cake from a recipe on here a few weeks ago so going to try again for Dds birthday...party on Saturday will the cake keep ok if I make it on Friday morning? Also I was going to do butter icing, how far in advance can you do that? Thanks!!

I would do it all on the Friday and store in an airtight tin, will be fine for the next day.

If you can fit in the fridge once in tin that would be best, otherwise just in a cool place (ie not on top of the radiator Wink)
