Do you have to soak split peas before making pea soup?

The pack says soak overnight but my pea and ham soup recipe seems to suggest you just use dry ones and cook the soup for a couple of hours. Help!

sometimes I do and sometimes not!

depends if you are in a hurry for the soup really, and remember no extra salt until the peas are soft.

Yup! But you could soak them in boiled waiter for about 45 mins and add another 30 min to cooking time. Works for me..

oh definitely soak them, or else they can take hours and hours to cook. the older they are, the longer they need.
