What's the best family cookbook you've come across?

I am SO tired of feeding children spag bol and fish fingers and not a great deal else, and then trying to think of something to cook for me and DH later that eve. I need a brilliant cookbook with simple and delicious ideas that will feed us ALL! Recommendations would be very welcome - I've seen a lot of praise for Fay Ripley's Fay's Family Food, which does look good, though I am loathe to get more cookbooks by celebs ... Which is the best family cookbook you've seen?

Nigella's first one, "How to eat".
Her best.

I was just about to recommend Faye Ripley's - I was very surprised at how good it is as like you I don't like the celeb thing either. The other person I really like is Tana Ramsey - again much to my surprise.

coffeeinbed I do like How to Eat - my mum has it. But I thought there were more complicated/fussy recipes in there? Maybe I'm wrong ...

I thought she had pretty much a bit of everything there.
Fussy/poncey and some doable stuff as well.
I don't have a big family though, so maybe I'm a bit off in my judgement.

I bought both my kids the Good Housekeeping bible-type book when they went to uni as they love cooking. I don't remember which one it is but it's something like a "classic". It has all the basic sauces etc etc as well as loads of recipes.

I honestly don't think you can beat GH - others are a bit fashionable IYSWIM.

Jamie's Ministry of food.
Easy, cheap, readily available ingredients, and nothing exotic.

I've made every dish in it, most are staples and I can't recommend it enough.

Shame, his 30 minute meals was crap.
