I have used the wrong sugar in my Christmas cake

I stupidly picked up the wrong bag from the cupboard and used light brown sugar instead of dark. I noticed as I was spooning the mix into the tin and it was too late so I bunged it in the oven where it has been for the past 3 hours, so I haven't seen the result yet.

Does anyone one know if it will be really light in colour? It will probably taste fine, but I don't want it to look like a sponge cake with raisins in it.
Will I have to make another one tomorrow?

It'll look fine

oh it'll be fine! don't owrry. it may be slightly less "treacly" tasting, but i doubt it'll be that much different

It will be fine! Are you soaking it in booze? Use a dark rum and it'll make the flavour deeper.

Once you've fed half a bottle of brandy into it, you'll never know.

I think it'll be fine. I bung in whatever brown sugar I have to hand, did you use treacle too?

VeryStressedMum · 15/11/2011 20:10

Oh thanks, yes I used treacle but only slightly less than a tablespoon so not much. I'm soaking it in brandy, and the dried fruit were soaked in a bit of brandy too so it should taste fine, I was just a bit concerned about the colour - I didn't want it to be too light.
