What would you serve with Soy Glazed Roast Beef?

We're having friends round for dinner and are going to do Roast beef which is marinated in a Chinese style Soy glaze, (we've made it before and it was very nice) and Roast sweet potato, (the suggested accompaniment from the recipe)

We don't know what other veg/salad to serve. I think a big bowl of green beans would be nice but DH thinks that's dull, (I also think mashed sweet potato would be easier and look more dinnery) He says salad, I think too summery.

What would you serve or like to eat with that? Oh they're coming round tomorrow night, Monday so I have to buy it tomorrow morning. Any ideas please.

Wilted pal choi?

Or.. You could do the green beans this way...

Cook the beans till al dente, drain.

Make a dressing of extra virgin olive oil (3 parts), vinegar (1 part), 3 cloves of garlic chopped finely, seasoning.

Serve at room temperature.

This is how we have green beans with steak and salad. Had them this way for years and years (came from my Italian grandma)

I like both those ideas, but especially the beans one. Do you think the beans and a salad or just beans?

Watercress rather than lettuce

Oh yes, the pepperiness would match better.

I would do new potatoes.

Watercress sounds good too or you could do a mixture of that with rocket.
