Gluten Free - alternative to stout in my Christmas pudding?

My sister is gluten free, and the Delia recipe I use for Christmas pudding includes stout, which isn't gluten free. [I did use a different recipe a couple of years ago but I'm damned if I can find it now!]
Would dark ale do instead?

I'm pretty sure any liquid would do, (orange juice would probably do the job) so I would be happy to subtitute any kind of ale that is gluten free if I was making it.

dh is gluten free. You can buy gluten free ale/bitter/lager from some large supermarkets. Cider is gluten free.

Personally I would probably use brandy and water. :)

p.s. when I said dh is gluten free I meant (obviously) that he has a gf diet!
