I've seen cakes that look like cup cakes but have chocolate fingers wrapped around them and I really would like to make something for dh. I don't have a special moulded tin or anything so it will be a case of cutting it to shape I guess. Does anyone know how to make one and have a good recipe for a sponge?

I think the idea of the special moulded tin is that you can bake the cake in two halves, because otherwise it's too deep and the outside will be dried out/burned while the inside isn't cooked yet.

I guess you could bake two cakes of your choice, shave the top off one cake to make it completely flat, and then cut the second cake into a flattish cone and stack on top. You'd lose most of the top cake, and would also need a couple of really good crumb coats since the top cake will be a very large expanse of cut and therefore crumb-ridden cake surface Smile

Given the number of threads on here I've seen about people having difficulties with these, I'm sure you'll find some advice from the advanced search...and I'd say you're a brave woman to tackle it!!
