My 9month old *won't* hold food or put it in his mouth!

My son, 9 months, happily eats all sorts of food, but only if we feed him. He won't hold his bottle, he won't drink from a cup (screws up his face and turns away from it), and he won't hold any finger food.
We've tried leaving a bowl of finger food with him, but he either ignores it, or just cries until we give in and feed him.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

is it just food he wont pick up? Does he pick up toys eetc?

Yes, he's amazing at doing other things with his hands - very precise with things. But he doesn't put toys in his mouth either. Never has done.

I would just continue to feed him, but give him his own spoon and encourage him. sorry not much help!

DS was very similar. Then it suddenly all "came together" at about 13 months he "got" finger food, started holding his bottle, and drinking from a cup. Just keep giving him the opportunity to do all these anyway, and wait until he's ready, and don't worry!

My dd did not do any of those things until she was a few months past 1 year. I remember getting worried when I saw an 8 month baby at the baby weighing clinic helping herself to some quavers. But it did come together for my dd when she was ready - I did not do anything to encourage. I think dd being in nursery and seeing other kids feed themselves helped.

Thanks, everyone. He goes to nursery already, but doesnt seem to care that the other babies are all feeding themselves! He's so happy being pandered after!
