Help!! What can I use instead of dates in my cake recipe?

I've got everything ready to make a "sticky toffee apple cake" for bonfire night. I'm supposed to have 7oz of dates cooked and then blended with milk. I forgot to buy dates so only have 1 oz. Could I sub prunes or apricots do you think??

Aaaaah. I think it's the dates that give the flavour/make it sticky. Prunes might possibly work, but I don't think apricots have the right texture/taste

i don't think it will be the same, but i think that it might be ok. prunes are quite softer than dates though aren't they? maybe use a mixture?

i think it will be lovely though, and better than no cake at all!

thisisyesterday prunes are usually softer than dates but these have been on the shelf so long they aren't Grin. Thanks both of you, will go for it I think. Will let you know how I get on.
