We're having some people from DH's work round on saturday night.
There will be 12 adults and 5 teenagers (early teens).

I'm doing chilli and rice
There will also be tortialla crisps, sour cream, salsa and pitta bread. I have also got some chilli snacks and crisps.
1 of the other wives is bringing curry and naan bread.

We have drink in too, and have asked everyone to bring a botle

So, DH thinks we have enough. I am worrying that I should get bhaji's. samosas dips etc.

What's everyone's opinion?

It depends on the quantity. Any vegetarians?

MartyrStewart · 03/11/2011 13:08

I would get a load of bhajis etc, but I am a feeder and would hate for someone to leave hungry. And a load of garlic bread for the chilli.

In fact where abouts are you and what time would you like me to turn up? Grin

Does everyone like hot spicy food? How hot is your chilli? And any veggies?

Saltire · 03/11/2011 13:11

No vegetarians.

I have got
about 2 kg of chilli, god knows how much rice I'll cook
4 packets of pittas, and 2 tubs/jars each of sour cream and salsa

4 packs of chilli snack, 4 packs of some other kind of chilli snack 8 packs of tortillas- all big bags

martyr - I always worry that people are underfed! and I thought if I get extra bhajis and the like, and things to dip then they won't go to waste as they'll get eaten or frozen

Have done 2 chillis, one hotter and spicier than the others. Also everyone was asked if they liked it beforehand and they all said yes

I would ask the person bringing the curry if she is bringing any bahji's, etc or if it will just be a pan of curry and a pile of bread. If not then I would probably get some, but mainly because I love them, oh and some poppadums, mango salsa and lime pickle, hmmm lime pickle. Ok I may be getting a bit carried away :0

Saltire · 03/11/2011 13:27

Forgot to add Bombay potaotes! I'm making those too!

I wouldn't think 2 kilos of chilli would be enough.

If I am making chilli for 2 adults, 2 primary kids and baby then I use 500g mince and then 1 or 2 (420g) tins of kidney beans. That will do us for dinner and DH's lunch the following day.

I think for 17 you would need a fair bit more than 2 kilos, even allowing for the curry.

what about pudding?

If you make too much you can always freeze it. I'd do 3 kgs mince and 6 cans red kidney beans.

I'd also get more sour cream and salsa.

Maybe potato wedges as well or instead of rice (love chilli and wedges with fat handful of grated cheese!) - good for bulking out!
But chilli, curry, bombay potatoes with rice/bread.tortilla crisps sounds like a good start, with samosas/bhajis/wedges as 'padding' - yum! Grin
