... and DS wondered what Spam was. :) Being the indulgent mother adventurous person that I am, I spent a whole £1 and bought him a can. I'm aware of the 'Spam Fritter' but, despite my working-class upbringing (DM v aspirational), have never actually made or eaten one. Any tips?

lolol In Hertfordshire you do indeed get a spam goujon in tempura batter in a Financial Times paper cone with an optional drizzle of fruit coulis.

yy Ponders. banana fritter stalls. [happy food memory]

yeah yeah yeah losty

Northeners and their right ways of deep frying produce
[rolls eye]

I'm going to go to sainsbos now and see if I can locate the spam. there may be fritter advice on the tin.

well I was a southerner (now LostinLancashire) & we also had your deep-fried fritters with none of your poncey goujon nonsense (no mushy peas in Middlesex though, I think it was against the law)

lostinwales · 27/10/2011 10:23

See I couldn't even remember the word 'tempura' (not sure what my point is anymore>

Slubber you don't really do you? that's just pandering to stereotypes that is. .

Decision made. The Spam is staying firmly in its can - and may feature yet in my last will and testament - and we're having homemade meatloaf (or should that be a Terrine of Ground Beef and Pork with a Tomato Jus?) for supper.

aw losty. I love a good pander to a stereotype Grin

Cogito that is VERY defeatist. I just bought a tin of Spam (Spam Lite with 25% less salt and fat than regular Spam) in sainsbury's so I could fritter with you in spirit. I bought some mushy peas too.

Come on now. Leave the meat loaf until tomorrow.

Our greasy spoon deli and sandwich shop sells spam and egg sandwiches, fried spam and fried egg. Really nice with tons of red sauce, so I've heard!
