Christmas Pud help - do I have to re-cover and tie it up again?

In the past I have always taken off the greaseproof/foil used to cook it originally, then immediately re-wrapped it with fresh stuff before I put it in the cupboard until Christmas.

I know some people take off the cooking paper to stuff in extra brandy but I don't want to do that.

So, is there any other reason why I need to re-wrap it? What harm will come from leaving it in its already-sterilised-by-steam-for-6-hours cooking paper? Or is that the route to a mouldy pud??

Any advice greatly appreciated.
