It's a 2lb joint and I like my meat rare. This website reckons 30 minutes cooking at 220 degrees celcius, then 9 minutes per pound at 160 degrees celcius after that. So a total cooking time of 48 minutes. Is that enough? It doesn't seem very long.

And remember that French rare is almost raw inside so you could try 15 and 15, rather than 15 and 10.

I would think your joint of meat would be ready in 30 mins tops.

And the butter is put on at the start when still cold.

Ah I see so 10/15 mins at 220, then 10/15 mins at 180/190.

When blasting it is it the hotter, the better cos my oven actually goes up to 240, not 220.

As long as it doesn't dry out you could try it. Just check on it after say 7 minutes.

Sorry not to be more help all my cooking experience has been trial and error and watching the mother in law and her predecessor. Having a meat thermometer does help.
