I think it tastes lovely although never having had it before, I could be completely wrong. Very sweet, don't know if it will last till Christmas Day though Thank you will let you know what she thinks, i'm sure it's as good as her Grans hahahahahaha!

Tablet is sooooo sickly isn't it! Don't eat too much or you'll be sick.

Didn't fancy the stovies then???

spruceylucy5 · 22/12/2005 15:24

Not today! Ive been like delia bloom Smith. Ive made Tablet, Truffles but weve decided to call them reindeer poo, you can imagine why! Ive also made chocolate christmas moulds, which were also rubbish. Infact the only thing that has turned out well, well I hope so is the tablet. Ive only eaten the tiniest bit and I feel distinctly queasy Thats a sick emotion

Tablet is heavenly but very bad for teeth and waistline . You can almost smell the calories

do you think I could have the tablet recipe please? I make a 6tablet like fudge which I thought was fairly authentic but my late Grandma said it wasn't quite right. I'd like to compare recipes if possible.

Have you made the millionaires shortbread yet, you won't be able to stop that either

myturn · 22/12/2005 21:47

Ooooo lovely! Did you have some while it was still hot? Gorgeous...

moondog · 22/12/2005 21:48

Tablet...great name.

spruceylucy5 · 22/12/2005 21:53

No im making the shortbread tommorrow. I did try it when it was hot, lurrrrvvveelly! Ive been secretly stuffing it all day.

Any ideas on the history of the name or is it just because of the shape?

The name 'Tablet' is first mentioned among the purchases in 'The Household Book of Lady Grisell Baillie' 1692-1733, as 'taiblet for the bairns'*. One of the special skills of the Scots kitchen has always been sweetmaking.

  • Great Glen Fine Foods
  • Translation: 'tablet for the children'

There, a bit of useless information for you. I presume it is called tablet because of the shape.

spruceylucy5 · 22/12/2005 22:13

Thanks myturn, I love useless information, you never know when it'll come in handy. I can't wait for my friend to try it (if there is any left) dh is munching it now!
