Friends coming over Saturday night but I'm in London for the day so will need to prepare something on Friday. Needs to look like I've made an effort. I tend to do lasagnes in these situations but think I made roasted veg lasagne last time they came

Chilli? Something in the slow cooker? M&S?

cassoulet, green salad and crusty bread.
then nigella's molten chocolate babycakes - these prepare ahead really well too

Cottage pie
Chicken, leek & ham pie
Beef casserole with dumplings (do them on the night)

Good, good, keep 'em coming. Think lb tagine winning so far

The chicken and chickpea thing from Nigella's How To Eat is absolutely lush. And tastes better for being cooked ahead.

You could try this one Don't be put off by the title - everyone in our family loves it. I made it for a friend recently who was having a tough time and another friend who was visiting tried it and had to come and get the recipe from me.

The goulash would work too - you can make it with chicken or pork if you don't want a veggie meal.

Pulled pork with apple sauce, bread rolls etc
