I have wanted one for so long but just no room in our little terrace house BUT...we are soon to be moving to a bigger house with a lush kitchen which just is crying out for a KA!! I love baking but want to know have I just been seduced by seeing all the celebrity chefs use them and is it just about the looks? I'm clearing out my house for the move and ebaying a load of stuff and plan to splash out on one with the proceeds. So tell me are they really worth it???????

I have realised that I actually have a kenwood Chef which is much cheaper I think.

JoyceBarnaby · 17/08/2011 17:31

I daren't ask for a pic of a Kenwood Chef - we might get a genital wart.

stealthsquiggle · 17/08/2011 18:01

Kenwood chefs are functionally much the same but not as pretty (starting from the wart, I guess that's not saying much, but still)

twinklytroll · 17/08/2011 18:17

I chose a Kenwood chef firstly because it was cheaper but also I have a Kenwood food processor that I have been using for 15 years. My grandma also had a Kenwood mixer that she used for about 40 years I think.

twinklytroll · 17/08/2011 18:17

But yes they are probably not as pretty, but I love mine.

RosieBP · 17/08/2011 18:19

I have a K mix which I love - and it is very pretty!

PS Is it wrong that I only found this through the link from the boil thread?!

lou33 · 17/08/2011 18:43

Either would be fine by me. As long as the leaflets instruction booklet was not in fact a selection of close up boil shots.

Malvapoeding · 17/08/2011 18:49

I love mine more than DH and have the icecream maker too - we use the creamy vanilla bitty ready made custard from M&S, warm it through add out chosen flavour and hey presto ice cream. I tend to make to order so if the kids want strawberry I make it up and they get it straight from machine to bowl. Our local KA pimp supplier has shown me a pasta attachment that makes tube pasta Shock Now I need it!

Don't ever buy a Kitchenaid at full price on the high street.

Have a look on commercial catering equipment websites as they are often cheaper there. Try Russums or Nisbets. Search the internet for other online sellers too. I have found prices do vary very widely.

We have a Kenwood Patissier. You can't add any attachments to it but it's just as pretty as a Kitchenaid. We borrowed my Mum's full blown Kenwood Chef which has all the attachments but in 6 months we only ever used the mixer so the Patissier is perfect for us.

A fraction of the price of a Kitchenaid, we got ours for under £100 on Amazon. Ours is red.

We use it about 2-3 times a week, for baking, making pizza dough & bread mainly.

my brain

brambleschooks · 17/08/2011 21:35

My KA is in daily use. I have been known to stroke it.

Popbiscuit · 17/08/2011 22:24

My imagination is failing to come up with links between warts and food mixers. I'm afraid to go to the boil thread. Fill me in please?

Pinner35 · 17/08/2011 22:30

I love my KA and my DDDDH has just bought me the beautiful glass bowl for it. It is in use daily and I couldn't (or wouldn't) do anywhere near as much baking as I do if I didn't have one. Agree with choosing the colour carefully....mine is the ice blue and I love it.

stealthsquiggle · 17/08/2011 22:30

Does anyone have a replacement flat beater for their KA (like this)? - the paint is coming off my original one Angry

lou33 · 17/08/2011 23:42

I cook/bake daily, often more than once so a Ka would be perfect for me. But I can't ever have one now as all I will think about is boils!

Angry Sad

:)

MyCatHasStaff · 17/08/2011 23:52

I also love mine. It makes short work of fabulous xmas cakes, so obviously you will need one soon to make them. Mine is the almond colour, so very retro.

The boil thread photos got an AWFUL lot worse.

But back to baking. As you were, ladies!

MigratingCoconuts · 18/08/2011 10:42

do they do one in puss colour?

lou33 · 18/08/2011 14:04

Oh dear I think I need to lie down now. The only thing that will make up for it is someone buys me a kitchen aid . . . .
