Setting up school cookery club for 4-7 year olds. What to cook in an hour?

Hi,

Fed up that schools dont do enough cooking I have set up an after school cookery club for 20 4-7 year olds. My 4 year old DD being one of them.

I am running this after school with the help of 3 teachers so small groups of 5 children each.

Can you come up with quick to make, maybe no cook receipes that the kids will enjoy making within one hour to include a bit of clearing up?

We have access to small cooker and hob.

I really want this to work as all places were taken within one hour of news letter going out and there is a waiting list already!!

Presume you want to avoid the fairy cake/crispy cakething.

Hummus and crudites
Scones
Shortbread (Delia does a good one that doesn't require kneading)
Fudge

Have you watched "I can cook" on Cbeebies? They do more offbeat recipes and the instructions are on the web page.

Jam tarts were always my favourite. Rolling/stamping out pastry and filling with blobs of jam is very absorbing.
Cheese straws
Melon boats with orange slice 'sails' and banana slice 'sailors'
Fruit skewers
Dough balls with garlic butter
Flapjack (old favourite)
Pizzas... buy ready-made little bases and provide selection of toppings.
Pancakes.... batter or ready-made. Adults supervise the cooking/flipping part and they fill them with interesting fillings.
Chocolate fondue with marshmallows and fruit
Cheese fondue with crusty bread

Looks like the cooker is no go.

Tried out some cheese straws today and they took forever to cook.

Any other no cook recipes please?

What misery said you couldn't use the cooker? Or is it bust?

Guacamole dip (in similar vein... hummus and other dips)

They do not cook school dinners at the school, it's brought by taxi from larger school.
Staff room only has a small microwave. It's a small school only 85 children

When my ds went to KIDDICOOK he made fantastic food - lasagne, crumble, bread, cheese straws, fallafel, the kids brought the food home in a tin foil container to cook. It was good as the children were able to spend more time preparing interesting food.

Make fresh pasta they can take home and cook later? With simple pesto?
Trifles - get jelly into fridge and rest of hour making different toppings for assembly?
Or even tiramissu, maybe have cuisine themes?
Great question. I have a 7 & 4 year old who Id like to get more involved in the kitchen.
