Anyone ever decorated a cake with chocolate plastique

I've got a wedding cake to do of which half is a dummy cake. i was planning on doing the dummy now to save time and it needs to be covered in chocolate plastique. The event isn't until mid-July though so I'm wondering if it will keep that long?

Anyone used it before? Does it keep well?

It is basically modelling chocolate. You make it by mixing melted chocolate and glucose and it has the consistency of sugarpaste.

I havent but have been meaning to. Mich Turner shows the technique in her book. It doesnt specify in the book time scales however in most cases the icing needs to be kept air tight. I would google it as there are loads of cake decorating sites on there.

I would defo have a go.

The thing is it's a real tower of a cake (it's one of Mich Turner's) and keeping it airtight is going to be tricky. I'm worried it will dry out too much.

I see now you want to do the dummy now. I can see how you would do it - unless you wrapped in layers and layers of cling film. July isnt long so 6 weeks at most.

Its only sugar paste and chocolate which contains so much sugar so cant see it going bad. If wrapping in cling then that will leave marks - unless you make up a box and warp that in endless cling. - that would work.
