It'll make it runny but you can just let it simmer down again
You could also add less chilli

Itsjustafleshwound · 30/04/2011 12:38

I think if you add some potato it cools it down??

GwennieF · 30/04/2011 12:39

If it's already made and too hot, you could serve it with sour cream. Otherwise use fewer chillis.

virgiltracey · 30/04/2011 12:50

too late for the fewer chillis tip! Its fine for me and DH but I think the DSs will complain!

As Gwennie said, stir some sour cream through DSs' portions. Or transfer a couple of portions with as little of the sauce as possible and throw in a tin of chopped toms, simmer for a bit and that should be cooler for them. If it's still too hot add the sour cream to that too.

You can add a tin of tomatoes and some oats - they'll boil down into it and disappear so no-one will even know they're there but will thicken the sauce nicely. And serve with a dollop of sour cream, creme fraiche or natural yoghurt.

virgiltracey · 30/04/2011 12:55

Right off for sour cream. what was the potato tip though itsjusta? Do you just throw in a lump to abosrb the heat or do you actually put cooked potato in it?

Oats? what just normal oats? do I have to blitz them into powder in the food processor or something?

If you boil a potato in with it, the potato will absorb a lot of the heat as it cooks. Ditto if something is too salty. Potatoes- food saviours!

Itsjustafleshwound · 30/04/2011 13:28

As SilentBob suggests - hope it works!

laptopwieldingharpy · 30/04/2011 13:33

add a tin of tomatoes and some sugar (always add sugar to tomato sauce). reduce sauce, serve with sour cream (we always use greek yogurt)

WhatTheActualFuck · 30/04/2011 17:36

Probably too late now but for future reference...just normal oats, no need to blitz or anything as they just kind of melt into the sauce. Will give a slightly creamier texture to the sauce but the flavour is undetectable. Great way of making a dish stretch a little further too.
