Scone recipe - anyone got a good one or know of a thread about one?

I have been hunting and failing to find a good scone recipe. I am sure there must be a thread on here with one but I keep getting sent to the book section when I search Hmm

Does anyone have a reliable recipe for biggish scones? Or does anyone know the whereabouts of a thread about them.

I have a really basic recipe that's great, make them as big as you like. For deeper ones, just don't roll them very flat.

50g/2oz butter
225/8oz self-raising flour
120ml/4fl oz milk

add
25g/1oz sugar for sweet and 125g/4oz raisins for fruity

or 75g/3oz cheese for savoury scones.

Rub butter into flour, por in milk, mix with a knife, add desired flavour, make into a ball, roll or cut into chosen shape/sizes.
Brush with milk, bake (220/425/gas 7) for 25 mins.

HTH?

I always do Delia's scone recipe - always go down a storm with DHs cricket team!

Try using buttermilk instead of milk, for a truly authentic scone
