hi

i have some strawberries (stupid buy Blush i should have known they would be bitter this time of year...) and a loaf of bread that only has a couple of days left in it. any ideas of what i can do with these, either together (if that's possible? maybe a strawberry bread and butter pudding???) or separately

thanks!

sprinkle sugar on the strawberries.

Isn't summer pudding a 'bread & fruit' style pud?

Iklboo · 16/03/2011 13:53

summer pudding
You could do it with just strawberries.
Any left over bread make loads of hot buttered toast (mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, toast)

make breadcrumbs out of the bread and freeze.
Blitz the strawbs up with some icing sugar and make a strawb sauce for yoghurt/ice cream

Strawberry sandwich!

....waits for the laughter to die down....

No, I'm not kidding. Slice of bread, bit of butter, sliced strawberries and a bit of sugar on them. Favourite summer treat for me back home (Netherlands) but in this country everyone looks at me like I'm mad when I mention it :o

Before you put the strawberries in the sandwich (yummm by the way) try macerating them first.

To do this, cut them into chunks and put in a bowl with a spoon of icing sugar and a teaspoon or two of good balsamic vinegar. Leave them for an hour or so. They will taste fantastic.

hmm the sandwich idea is crazy enough to try! now im not sure between this and summer pudding...:)

just in case you're all curious about what i did :) i macerated the strawberries (thanks slug) and then tried them with bread with the strawberry sandwich but Naoko it wasn't for me- but i do get the idea, it's kind of like a jam sandwich, or maybe like a quick summer fruit pudding without the berry juice in the bread? so then i had them with meringue nests and they were yum, in fact i may actually buy them again!!

then made a huge batch of breadcrumbs (thanks Taffetas) for when i next make fishcakes.

also made some garlic bread out of some bagels that weren't going to last!

am now just stuck with what to do with some whole trout that defrosted when the freezer door didn't close properly Confused!

thanks everyone, i hate seeing food go to waste!!
