raspberry flavoured fondant icing with chocolate cake - good or weird?

am a somewhat ambitious novice cake maker (well, I can follow a recipe) and thought it might be more interesting to have a choc birthday cake with more than just sugary icing. good idea or very bad idea?! (the request is for coloured icing, not choc icing)

Well, raspberry and chocolate is a lovely combination. Why don't you make a small batch of fairy cakes using the chocolate cake recipe and the flavoured icing to see how well it works before doing the birthday cake?
