Dp loves food shopping Confused He usually happily goes off to Asda, mostly I'm there too, and shops til his heart's content Grin
Last night I informed him that from now on (trial period) we're buying our meat from the excellent local butchers, and our fruit and veg from the recently started food co-op (every Monday) So today I did just that, bought enought meat for all of us (2 adults 2 dss) for 3 meals and enough fruit and veg to last a week. Total £15! He said it's more expensive to go to the butchers but in fact it was cheaper and much better quality.

He works night, can't wait for him to get up so I can show him Wink

I used much less packaging too, bonus!

Way to go - good on you. Sounds like a bargain to boot.

Butchers are great. I love going to mine. I think since turning 30 I have also got a lot more ballsy and am now quite happy to say "No, that's too expensive" to them.

I got a lb of shine of beef, 6 big chicken thighs and a huge lump of pork belly - all for £15. And that's a London butchers.

I thought butchers would be much more expensive when I first started going and although they are not cheaper in my area, they are not nearly as much as I thought they would be and the quality is fantastic. Its nice to eat chicken that actually tastes of chicken.

Curiousmama · 08/03/2011 10:03

Yes agree regarding chicken, there's a lot of water in the supermarket stuff unless you buy organic.

ditto mince that actually tastes like beef.

I used to always shop like that, when my nearest supermarket was an hour away. Now it's a proper faff getting to the butchers- no parking nearby then a 10 min walk with 2 small DCs, and there's no good greengrocer here AT ALL. Am v Envy.

Awww that's a shame debka.

I'm taking a backpack this Monday so I can get even more Grin
