Puff pastry lid on casserole - total novice:-(

Do I put it over the top of the food rather than on the top of the casserole dish or touching the dish?

Also does it cut/separate easily when you serve it?

Never used before!!

Cut a cm/inch? wide strip of pastry and press that round the edge of the rim of casserole. And the then put your pastry lid onto that. Use egg to make all the bits stick to sides and each other

I cut to shape separately and cook 'lid' on a baking tray by itself if its puff pastry - then assemble at the table.
