Has anyone made Spaghetti with Marmite?

This week, for the first time ever in ages Blush I have planned our family meals for the full week in advance.

So far all going well, but I'm worried about tomorrow...

I planned to make Nigella's spaghetti with marmite for the first time as it will be super quick to make (DS1 has Beaver Cubs, so limited time for dinner).

Having re-read the recipe tonight, I'm not so sure... someone tell me you've made it and it was magnificent??!?

Erm, I would love to tell you that it's magnificent, but it just tastes like "spaghetti with marmite"!! Not sure how she managed to get that one in the recipe book......

I have had porridge with marmite, if that is any help. Quite nice, but go easy on the marmite.

LakeFlyPie · 24/02/2011 11:09

I'm quite partial to a bit of Marmite on toast but that sounds revolting.

How do you make it?

CMOTdibbler · 24/02/2011 11:12

DS adores it

Whitershadeofpale · 24/02/2011 11:51

I liked it, tastes like twiglets! Lots of cheese with is good.

TerrorFirmer · 24/02/2011 11:57

Good grief, it sounds revolting. And I love marmite. What's the appeal? If it's a quirky quick pasta dish you're after, try a tin of mushy peas and a splodge of philadelphia. YUMMERS.

IloveJackWhite · 24/02/2011 11:59

I made it and it was lovely and very filling. Just go easy on the marmite and add lots of parmesan!

GwendolineMaryLacey · 24/02/2011 12:00

This makes me laugh so much. I've been making this for years, long before Nigella 'invented' it. I was taught by my Italian boss who used to whip it up for the kids.

It's totally gorgeous, mine and DD's favourite comfort food but it tastes 1000 times better if you use the tiny weeny little star pasta so the whole thing is a lovely gooey cheesy mess :) Yum.

LakeFlyPie · 24/02/2011 12:06

So how do you incorporate the Marmite into pasta?

Am willing to give it a try.

Tobagostreet · 24/02/2011 13:34

Thanks everyone. I'll report back on how this goes tonight.

lakeflypie - you use some of the retained cooking water from the pasta to 'dilute' the marmite!!

I see - look forward to hearing the report Smile

Wondering if this could be the new pasta, pesto, cheese and peas quick meal.

lovemysleep · 24/02/2011 16:59

Think I'd rather eat my own earwax.........sounds so wrong to me! Grin

littleducks · 24/02/2011 18:40

I have made it at desperate times for the kids, i only use a tiny bit of marmite.

They dont eat marmite on toast or whatever but quite like the pasta

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 24/02/2011 19:00

I've made it, and dh, ds1 and I all love it - it is even better with a soft-poached egg on top, and ds1 has it with the aforementioned egg and grated cheese.

Mummy2Bookie · 24/02/2011 19:03

I love vegemite but not marmite

Right - the outcome is...

I thought it was fab, quick and easy. Will defo make again. I needed lots of parmesan and pepper.

DS1 loved it, and DS2 thought it was good - both would defo eat again - they dont like pesto anymore - so this is our new pesto!

DH - was non commital - which means he wasn't particularly impressed (but until he learns to cook - he's stuck with what I dish up!)

Everyone is looking forward to Nigella's baked seafood tomorrow, and my Tarte Tatin simmering on the hob as I speak!

Anyone want to take bets that my 'domestic goddess' phase is over by Monday next week?? Grin
