argh just started making a choc fudge cake from Jamie Oliver Ministry of Food Book. It calls for blanched almonds - I don't have any but do have ground almonds - will this do? same amount?

I wouldn't think so. Better to replace with another type of whole or chopped nut. Ground almonds would add "stodge" not crunch, which is what the blanches almonds would do.
