what starter and pud to go with this chocolate pork recipe?

I am making 'chocolate junkie pig' [http://uktv.co.uk/food/recipe/aid/631882] at the weekend for a dinner.
I had another menu all planned but then found this recipe and loved it - only I'm now stuck for a starter and pudding to go with it.

Any suggestions would be very welcome!

omg

a bucket

I can't bring myself to look up the recipe, sorry.

It does sound gross, granted - and the recipe name is not so nice, but no one coming to dinner has to know that!

It's made with pure cacao (one of 'willie's wonky chocolate' recipes) - so doesn't actually taste 'chocolaty', more like adding a depth of flavour, like when you use chocolate in mexican savoury cooking.

...I'm not convicing anyone, am I?!

urgh, no

Although I do know Americans like chocolate with their bacon, its the sweet/salty thing

pinksky · 10/02/2011 14:39

Doesn't actually taste sweet in it's raw form, more bitter.

Sorry, 'its'

Despite the reactions I'm determined to cook it :) so would still be grateful of starter/pudding recipes

I hear you pink, a deep tone to the dish rather than an overpowering flavour.

Can't see the recipe but I presume it's quite a rich dish so would go for light on the starter (smoked haddock suffle, some garlic prawns, a salad with pear walnuts and blue cheese) and something citrus for dessert (lemon tart, indiv steamed orange sponges). Hope the pork turns out well.

have looked at recipe... it's got 25g (1oz) of chocolate - which will just give a depth, rather than a chocolate flavour. It sounds lovely pinksky.

Love Couldtryharder's suggestions (am salivating thinking of lemon tart and orange sponge!!).

Alternatives: a tomato or tomato & red pepper soup would be a refreshing starter. As pork is often served with apple, you could consider Eve's pudding or a simple apple crumble for pudding.

Thank you very much couldtryharder and lilolilmanchester, think you're right that something less rich is the way to go.

I really like the sound of a pear/walnut salad (think it's seasonal also, which is nice) and an apple dessert. Eve's pudding is a blast from the past! It'll work out well timing-wise also. Great - menu sorted!
