I think they'll taste a little foul?

Catsmamma · 06/02/2011 17:32

they will taste burger-ey!

Don't over cook the kangaroo ones, they go bouncy.

rofl @self [blushes]

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 06/02/2011 17:33

Imagine a cross between giant panda and dodo - that's ostrich burgers.

penelopestitsdropped · 06/02/2011 17:34

i am told they are delicious. though have never come across anywhere locally that sells them.

Bertina · 06/02/2011 17:34

The ostrich will taste rhea-lly nice.
The kangaroo will taste mar-super-ial.

I do hope I Emuse, and don't make you hopping mad.

Thanks a lot folks I'm here all week and available for weddings birthdays and bar mitzvahs.

YankNCock · 06/02/2011 17:36

The meat is very lean and tasty. We had ostrich burgers when we went to Ostrich World in Cumbria. Ate before seeing them, or we might have felt guilty.

Ostrich burgers are very low in fat and calories very good for you kind of like turkey quite dry but definitly tasy.

Can't help with the Kangaroo as ours are still in the freezer Grin

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 06/02/2011 17:39

oh if they are very lean and good for you I will have to serve them with something really fatty, to restore the balance of the universe.

lol at restoring the balance of the universe

I had salad for lunch, hello Ben & Jerry's, yippee!

whysolate · 06/02/2011 17:52

I had ostrich by accident,once.

It was nice.

catinthehat2 · 06/02/2011 17:56

I think too many people on this thread are hiding their heads in the sand.

catinthehat2 · 06/02/2011 17:58

I had ostrich steak once, given some as a gift, it was vvvvv yum.

Lean, tasty and expensive.

I recommend you don't share them with anybody on the basis that they are possibly a bit 'off', and eat them all yourself.

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 06/02/2011 18:07

how can you have ostrich by accident?

you were barbecuing. The garden gate was left open. An ostrich happened to wander in. He thought the barbecue looked a comfy place to sit down....

????

to be fair, they are not the world's brainiest flightless bird

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 06/02/2011 19:18

we had ostrich for Christmas lunch years ago - very verrrry nice

ooooooooo now I'm thinking of Boerwoers - I'm going to have to try and track some down again

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 06/02/2011 20:01

ok, report back.
it was very nice. more interesting and meatier than, say, a turkey burger, but lean. Would definitely have it again.
after we've eaten up the kangaroo ones.

I had ostrich steak recently.

Gorgeous. Nicer than beef. Just seemed to have more full flavour.

sharbie · 06/02/2011 20:55

ds says they taste like beef

southeastastra · 06/02/2011 20:56

like pretentious wank

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 06/02/2011 21:02

LOL SEA.

they were much nicer than pretentious wank, and I have eaten some pretentious wank in my time.

it was just yet another farmer desperately trying to save himself from bankruptcy by diversifying into something he could sell at a premium.

OP posts:
whysolate · 06/02/2011 21:45

I thought it was something else Seth Grin

I am a bit funny with food so no-one told me what it was before I ate it. They knew I wouldn't even have tried it had I have known!

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 07/02/2011 09:09

LOL Whysolate!
