I love liver and kidneys but wouldn't eat brains, can't stand tripe or tongue and have never eaten pigs' trotters. Have eaten chicken feet though (by accident!). You would need to be really hungry to think chicken feet were a good idea.

iota · 12/10/2005 18:01

I like liver, kidney, tongue, sweetbreads. Have even eaten brawn made from pigs trotters - my mum used to make it.

Only really eat liver in pate these days though as dh and the kids won't eat the above

zippitippitoads · 12/10/2005 18:02

I used to eat quite a lot and was brought up with them eg heart, oxtail, liver, kidneys, sweetbreads..not tripe or brains, or trotters or calve's heads..

but i became a vegetarian for about twelve years and then last year started eating meat again and now I'm tempted to start eating offal

i know it's fashionbable in some places now just curious what others think (I know dp wouldn't touch anything)

Is it popular in spain Sa

ooh oxtail forgot about that -- I love oxtail soup too

mawbroon · 12/10/2005 18:11

I'll resume eating offal once I have my baby (read somewhere to avoid during pg) - I love liver, kidney, heart, and also love haggis which has the lot in it!!

Fantastic source of iron/vitamins etc and cheap too. Admit that it can be bogging if not cooked well though.

I'll eat fish head (in a curry), pig's trotters, liver (in pate), kidneys (in steak & kidney pie), love tripe (in broth) and oxtail in soup.

But then I'm Chinese and we eat every part of the pig except it's squeal

piffle · 13/10/2005 11:40

I've bought and eaten lambs fry and dd adores it too, in NZ they give it away for free when you buy other cuts of meat, so we used to cook it for pet food as well.
I'm used to seeing it and smelling it - same with kidneys though I've never preared them myself, brains nope. chickens feet nope.
lambs fry is nice with tomato and onions fried...

I'm vegetarian so no. But grew up in a farming area and once our neighbour, a retired farmer, brought round some pig's trotters as a big treat. He thought he was giving us something special. Bleurrggh. My sister and I refused to eat them but my mum loyally ploughed her way through them (think the cats may have helped her out).

My mum used to make gorgeous steak and kidney pudding. Although I used to pick the kidney out. She stopped making them for a while after my father had to supervise the clear-up operation when a herd of cows strayed into a railway tunnel and got hit by a train. When he got home, mother had made steak and kidney pudding - he turned green and rushed off to be sick...
