Is half a leg of lamb enough for 4 adults?

Thanks. Ordered online what I thought was a leg, turned out to be half...did think it was surprisingly reasonable. It weighs over a kilo. Is that enough without looking stingy, am totally rubbish.

Just do lots of roast potatoes and veg with it (maybe a yorkshire pudding, not traditional with lamb but will bulk it out). Then serve a pud or cheese and biscuits or both!

I am useless at cooking for more than the three of us. Last year at a family barbecue for ds's birthday I bought about three times more than we needed! Some went in the freezer for another time but we were eating coleslaw and potato salad for days, and still ended up throwing more than we had eaten away)!

Or you could stew it with loads of haricot beans in a tomato sauce.

It's only just enough. I slow-cooked half a leg of lamb last night for 4 adults (it was 1.15kg), and every morsel of it got eaten (when you slow-cook it, the meat falls off the bone so there is 0 wastage). I served it with a huge pile of flageolet beans (3 tins), with 5 leeks stirred in. There was not so much as a bean left.

We also had a plate of ham to start with, then afterwards cheese, and an apple tart too. I wouldn't say we under-catered, but without the other courses it would have felt like it.

PS - I did mine on the hob for 3+ hours, in half a bottle of red wine on a 'trivet' of carrots and onions. It needed turning a few times. The lamb was studded with anchovies, garlic and rosemary. It was delicious!

Thereistheball that sounds fantastic. Easy too. I might have to do that next time I have a half lamb shoulder.

Thanks everyone, asked my friend today too and she explained that with cooking, you would end up with only 200g per person which really is not enough especially for 2 big men so have bought another one today! It's all turned out very expensive.

Some lovely recipes here too but not up to anything remotely different this time!

Thereistheball - I slow cooked half a leg of lamb today as per your recipe.

Thank you. It was bloody lovely. Smile

I used pinto and cannelini beans as opposed to flageolet though and served with baked potato and warm crusty bread.

I would have just served the half and given myself a tiny bit and done loadsa veg!

Pudding too should have filled them up!

Greedy men! Wink
