Chef DH says peel it and chop it up.

BadHair · 08/10/2005 17:03

I usually peel and chop them, but I'm no expert. I don't see why you couldn't do it in its shell, only the cooking time would be longer.

colditz · 08/10/2005 17:04

Chop in half and remove seeds, then roast the halves in the shell.

That's what I do with a butternut squash though, have never even seen a green squash

foxinsocks · 08/10/2005 17:06

do you mean green on the outside? is it sort of like a ball shape but bigger (like a small football)?

don't peel it and chop it - I normally boil these ones then cut them open, scoop out the seed and eat the flesh. You can roast them as well but don't forget to prick the skin otherwise it can explode and make a huuuuuuuuge mess!

foxinsocks · 08/10/2005 17:08

you can peel and chop if you want but it's very labour intensive - normally, you wouldn't peel a green squash.

BaronessMarsLady · 08/10/2005 17:08

yup foxinsocks... just like that!

So boil it then? Could I do what Colditz does with hers?

Thanks for your replies ladies! I got it with my fruit and veg delivery at school.

yes you can do as colditz does - it's just that sometimes these green ones have a very hard rind that's really hard to cut so if you find you can't cut it, then either shove it in a pot or put it in the oven whole.

parp¬

Hugh Fernly-whatever cut a slice off the top, scooped out the insides, filled it with cheese (emmental, iirc)replaced the lid and baked them in the oven until they were soft. Looked really delicious - he may have put some black pepper and nut meg in aswell.

teeavee · 08/10/2005 18:02

i think he adds cream as well

Carmenere · 08/10/2005 18:08

Yes you are absolutely right tv

BaronessMarsLady · 08/10/2005 18:16

carmenere your suggestion wins.

Will do that with lunch tomorrow.

Thank you!

Thanks foxinsocks!

Well it was HF-W's recipe really but it does sound yum. If I wasn't doing ww's I'd have it myself. Enjoy!
