Slow cooker shin of beef- clueless!

Have a shin of beef in the freezer and we have just got a slowcooker. I'd like to use it for our Sunday lunch but I don't know where to start really.
I'm not a massive fan of the classic stew but I am struggling to see an alternative.
Plus I am very, very worried about using the slowcooker for the first time- eek!

Any ideas, hints, tips and recipes would be very much appreciated!

TIA

What about making into a pie like this instead a of a stew.

Thank you but dp is wheatfree and I just don't have time to make any pastry. Sounds good for me though!

Didn't it come wiht a recipe book? it's just like an ordinary casserole dish, but slooooooooowww...

Maybe experiment: fill the slow cooker casserole with cold water and switch it on - see how long it takes to get hot and how hot it gets. Then do the same with boiling water, see how hot it stays. That will give you a feel for the cooking temperature.

Take the shin of beef out today (Saturday!). I would always casserole shin of beef anyway.

The great thing about the slow cooker is that as long as you leave it long enough nothing can go wrong. For sunday lunch I would cook something overnight.

Do the paprika recipe that's the Mumsnet recipe of the week, but just do it overnight in the slow cooker.

have a google for Hugh FW's shin of beef recipe....chilli beef it's fabulous!

or just put sliced onions and carrots into slow pot, with meat on top and beef stock.

I'd leave it in all day, fridge it overnight to skim off the fat and reheat to serve.

If it has the bone in the stock should "jelly"

Probably to late but, if I don't have time for pastry I do this one that has grated potato instead.
