went to look at the label

just as well - will stop me from eating them :)

Umm would you have liked them if you hadn't known about the palm oil?

strandednomore · 16/01/2011 07:19

Buy Hotel Choclat. I can assure you won't be disappointed. I am addicted.

DirtyMartini · 16/01/2011 07:20

Well, she did say they tasted horrible before she looked at the label.

Palm oil is really unhealthy, AFAIK. Ethically dodgy too, although you can get ethically sourced stuff and knowing M&S that may be what they use.

But yeah, I'm sure I have read that it is a spectacularly unhealthy oil. It is in loads of foods though, can't say I have ever noticed a taste from it.

Restrainedrabbit · 16/01/2011 07:28

Another recommendation for hotel Chocolat, ethically sourced and once tasted you'll never eat anything else again Grin

ppeatfruit · 16/01/2011 11:09

Palm oil organic or whatever is in EVERYTHING!! I hate it, it bungs me up. Where can you buy Hotel Chocolat Restrainedrabbit?

bacon · 16/01/2011 11:22

Yes palm oil is used in very cheap processed foods and is a no no. I would write to M&S and address this. Seems to be lots of crap chocolate doing the rounds at mo.

SlightlyTubbyHali · 16/01/2011 11:25

M&S chocolate is disgusting, as is Thorntons (waaay too sweet, even the kids won't touch it).

Hotel Chocolat far better - you can order online - it's dear but definitely worth it. Green and blacks also good.

knottyhair · 16/01/2011 11:47

Divine are a fantastic company who make lovely fairtrade chocolate. I get ours in Waitrose, but I think it's widely available.

strandednomore · 16/01/2011 14:41

Hotel Chocolat is online here or there are shops popping up everywhere. Now is a GREAT time to buy as they have lots of totally amazing offers on to get rid of their Christmas stock. I would thoroughly recommend one of the Christmas deluxe boxes at £8.50 down from about £28. We were in their store at Cribbs Causeway in Bristol just today and had to really restrain ourselves as we already have a drawer full of their chocolate. It's just so tempting! (and no I don't work for them, although I do know a lot about their cocoa estate in St Lucia!).

taffetacat · 16/01/2011 14:56

I have never liked M and S chocolate. Green and Black's here.

Restrainedrabbit · 16/01/2011 19:11

I won't touch Green and Blacks because they are part owned by cadbury's... And I don't like the way Kraft operate Angry yup Hotel Chocolat can be bought online- yum!!!

knottyhair · 16/01/2011 22:45

Same here Restrainedrabbit. Shame really, they used to be a small family firm...

kayah · 17/01/2011 09:04

Mummy2Bookie - I didn't like the taste of it first and then checked the label

... as Isaid in my first post

I don't eat m& s choc, so can't comment

Mummy2Bookie · 17/01/2011 09:41

Cadburys= too sweet= too addictive. I done eat that. Didn't know they own some of g&b, won't eat that anymore.

LaurieFairyonthetreeEatsCake · 17/01/2011 09:43

I gave a tin Of roses to dh for the kids at school as they tasted foul. They had soya in them.

Really yuk.

ppeatfruit · 17/01/2011 10:21

Most enormous manuf. put as much cheap sugar, salt, fat etc in their stuff that they can get away with LaurieFairy and `Mummy2.

Restrainedrabbit · 17/01/2011 12:45

www.chocolatetradingco.com/magazine/news/cadbury-buys-green-and-blacks?t=&b=1146 about cadburys share in G&B :)

taffetacat · 17/01/2011 14:35

stranded - thanks for that Hotel Chocolat tip - I went into our local one and picked up loads of the tiny dark choc reindeers, down from £7 to £1.50, expiry date Feb 2012!

SlightlyTubbyHali · 17/01/2011 17:18

Was about to post re the possible MBO of G&B for you, restrainedrabbit, but see you'd already spotted it.

Have also visited the HC sale. Mmmmmmmm.

strandednomore · 17/01/2011 18:25

taffetacat - you're welcome. I am happy to advertise them as I think their chocolate is fab and also they are doing some great stuff in St Lucia, a country so reliant on tourism that they can do with all the help they can get to diversify.

bacon · 18/01/2011 14:15

Isnt this why french women are noted for being slim - french plain chocolate. not the sickily stuff we are subjected too. Much harder to eat as you cant keep tucking into it.

What about Willy's chocolate - looked his chocolate factory on TV. His chocolate is great but very expensive, blows your head off so cant eat it too late.

We eat the Lindt dark choc with orange and the one with hazelnuts. Again, its very rich.

ppeatfruit · 18/01/2011 14:36

sadly bacon there a lot more fat french women now they're shoving Mcdo's down their throats but I 2nd the quality of the french choc. it's fab!

DewinDoeth · 20/01/2011 15:19

Hotel Chocolat used to have a shop in Wimbledon, where I regularly shopped. It closed down! WTF? A chocolate shop (of that calibre) closing down?

As you were.
