You can leave it on low to keep warm until you're ready to eat. I've never known anything overcook in a slow cooker.

arentfanny · 10/01/2011 10:24

Mine has a warm option that keeps food warm but doesn't cook it.

dietqueen · 10/01/2011 10:35

ummm but it will have been on from 8.30am - till I get home at 5pm (that's 9.5 hours) surely I cant keep it on warm for another 3 hours????

Can I switch off at 5pm and put on warm say around or cook high at 7pm when I take DS up to bed so an hour later it will be warmed through?

I'd just leave it on warm.

ProfYaffle · 10/01/2011 12:47

Yes, you can leave it on warm for 3 hours!

notapizzaeater · 10/01/2011 12:49

Cornflour is your friend Wink

dietqueen · 10/01/2011 13:47

I will go with the flow and let it continue to cook.

right first attempt Lamb Rogan Josh - ok. very watery end result and lamb far too overcooked so not a good one for leaving on SLOW all day.

Am trying chicken today!

Slow cookers don't evaporate liquid as they cook like a normal casserole so you don't need as much as normal. I second the cornflour suggestion or a handful of lentils or barley will also thicken it.

Forgot to say, I also think the cut of meat makes a difference. If it's too lean it goes sort of dry.

roundrobyn - i do lots of curry in mine. i use tinned tomatoes as the base and add either dry curry mix or some of pataks paste and then whatevers hanging around - onion, sultanas, apple, meat, veg, chutney (espec if it needs a bit of colour or oomph). don't bother frying anything

its one of my easiest/quickest meals and always gets eaten
