What spices shall I put on my chicken to make it taste Mexican-ish?

I meant to get one of those fajita spice sachets but forgot. It's just to rub on some strips of chicken to go in tortillas. What shall I use?

I usually marinade the chicken in a bit of beer/lager, crushed garlic, some chilli flakes (or whatver chilli type thing I have) and some smoked paprika. Tastes OK. I guess if you wanted to rub it on then just leave out the beer.

ooh marinade it if you can in:

  • crushed garlic
  • lime zest and juice
  • chilli
  • a little salt
  • fresh coriander

20 mins would do. much better than dry spices.

limes
garlic
cumin
black pepper

Yes I'm sure fresh is better but I'm just cooking with what I've got here (no limes or fresh herbs). I'll give chilli, paprika, garlic, cumin and oregano a go.

Thanks all!

what you are going to put on sounds fine to me. Key for me is chilli and paprika, perhaps would not bother with the cumin.

I'm not keen on cumin . yy to chilli, paprika and garlic. maybe some lemon juice if you've no lime to lift it a bit? poss a pinch of ground coriander.

I did chilli, paprika and oregano in the end - perfect. Many thanks!

I once googled the ingredients for those fajita sachets and it came up with ground cumin, ground coriander, paprika, chilli, garlic powder, salt and sugar so that's what we use.

Cumin and smoked paprika.
