How are meatballs made?

My kids go mad for those Swedish meatballs you can buy ready cooked in supermarkets. Unfortunately, my local Tesco is quite small and I am fed up of them never having them in stock. Does anyone know how to make them? Will homemade ones taste as good as the Swedish ones? Will they stay together in balls? My belief is that homemade ones will fall apart easily which is no good to me as I put them in tomato sauce and serve them tossed with pasta.

Thanks Suzywong, another excuse (if I needed one!) to ignore the Australian cookbooks I have been given. Not only do they use odd measurements, I have yet to find a recipe that doesn't contain an ingredient I can't identify or some ludicrous activity such as making chocolate palm trees.

I am not kidding unfortunately! I often marvel at Australian housewives wafting around their kitchens of an afternoon knocking up chocolate palm trees to decorate the mousse they are making for the kiddies' dinner.
