The event is at end of the holiday and we planned to do standard fare of nibbles/bread/cheese etc as we don't want much fuss. However, I'm now concerned that this is all people will have been eating throughout the Christmas period.

People are turning up in the mid afternoon and staying until mid/late evening. Simple food suggestions please - Is it acceptable to offer jacket spuds with a variety of fillings? Should we be cooking a joint of meat? Etc, etc.

I'd do bread, cheese, ham, pate, salads etc plus a bit pot of soup.

Or a meat chilli and a veggie chilli with rice and bread, so I could cook the chillis ahead of time.

I'd go minimal after the excesses of Christmas.

Big pot of soup, obv.

I agree with Watercress - meat chilli, veggie chilli, rice and bread, bowls of cheese, soured cream, salad, tortilla chips etc.

If you have people who wouldn't eat chilli, a big pan of soup and a cheeseboard would be good.

Whole shoulder of pork - roast for 24 hours, falls apart is delish. Serve with floury rolls and apple sauce. Very cheap and easy, and yummy, and different from the normal Xmas fodder.

Yes agree with taffeta, lovely shredded pork in rolls.
