Too salty - what's the remedy?

I've made some lentil soup and used too much chicken stock so it tastes too salty.

Please can anyone advise me what to do to make it taste okay?

IIRC raw potatoes put in it

put a potato in it, that will absorb the sal, then take it out before serving.

or, add some water to dilute it and reduce the soup back down?

They do say that if you put a potato in the soup and cook it it absorbs excess salt.

Did it work???????????????

I don't know as I'd already frozen the rest of the soup, so I'm going to try the dilution trick when I defrost it and stick a potato in then.
