Thats it really.

Me and OH dont often sit down together and eat a nice lunch together, so (as he has the day off) I thought it might be nice for us to sit down for lunch.... (In between visiitng family, Xmas dinner prep, and eating mince pies!)

Bear in mind we will be having hot ham for dinner on Xmas eve, followed by turkey and all the trimmings on Christmas day and Boxing day, (and cold meats etc for tea)...

I dont really want to cook that much for lunch, as we will also be prepping Xmas dinner on Xmas eve, and doing the Ham.
Also we will be stuffing our faces for the next few days (and will have had a big dinner out, the night before so nothing too filling)

Just having a mind blank...
all i can think of is soup with fresh bread (I have a breadmaker and only make my own bread, anyway, so fresh bread isnt necessarily as much as a novelty for us as it is for others)

Im a pretty confident cook
We both eat pretty much anything

TIA

two big scallops each cooked with garlic and butter, or if you are worried about breathing over friends leave the garlic out, maybe add a little chilli and lime? lambs lettuce on the side?

and a glass of cold Chablis each

mmmmmm

luxurious but if you just have two each not too filling

I'd probably do either prawns with harissa and quinoa, a pasta dish or some home-made soup. Although the scallops sound yummy too.

I'd do soup or something else light like feta salad
but you'll probably be hungover from your night out the night before so you might need carbs Xmas Grin

Could do kedgeree and have it a bit early and call it brunch then not too full for later?

Goes well with some cold fizz too.

Kedgeree is a good option or other brunch dishes - scrambled eggs, omlette or something Mexican.

What about a yummy sandwich? I make a pesto chicken one with griddled chicken breast chopped up and mixed with fresh pesto and mayo, spread onto crusty bread and add red onion, avocado and pea shoots. It's delicious.

smoked salmon

What about a seafood platter - crab, oysters, mussels, winkles, whelks, langoustines or lobster if you really feel like pushing the boat out. Could have it with homemade wholemeal bread, and some nice homemade mayonnaise.

Sorry, everywhere round me at the moment is full of oysters.
