crap. What do you normally do with it? I sliced and fried it as per the instructions and it was soggy and tasteless. It was pre-made - does that make a difference? I now have 3/4 of a pack left, what do you do with polenta?

I accidentally ate it for first time on a buffet in Croatia when I was pregnant.

Use it dry in baking.

Use it to give a nice crust to bread and pizza.

Use it in a rice pudding-type affair with cinnamon, raisons and cream.

Never bought the pre-cooked stuff though, not sure if you can do the above with it?

precooked is vile ....the dry stuff is much better as you can add stuff to flavour it .

wait til it's set, slice into chunks & fry in a frying pan. Add salt & pepper = delicious!
Did you mix any parmesan into first? It is bland so needs a bit of a kick.

Polenta is really nice (not the pre made one though)

Brown some onions, then add boiling water and watever quantity of polenta you need. Salt pepper. Heaven with a meat in sauce.

When I have left overs I "cube"it and just grill it with cheese. MMHHHH

Pre made is crap.

You need to make it yourself with stock instead of water and a truckload of parmesan. It's good just like that, or let it set and fry.

if you fry it , do it in 1/2 butter 1/2 olive oil ....normal cooking oil and its boogin.

My dh loves it with a tomato sauce and sausage. I only like it made as a porridge with milk and sugar ... (to my dh horror)

My mum makes a fabulous polenta dish, but then she is a great cook.

She makes up polenta, leaves to cool in shallow dish to fry in olive oil later when set.

She sauce to go with it is onion fried gently with fresh tomatoes, capers & shrimp.

Her polenta is really well seasoned and yum.

Mine on the other hand is shit.

ick; it is good for fooling dcs with (slice up chicken breast, bit of olive oil, roll in polenta, put in oven - hey presto: chicken nuggets...albeit slightly gritty ones)

Actually drivingmisscrazy I bought because I thought it would be a good finger food cut into slices for DD!

Taffetacat - not to be rude but I would love your recipes if I can use the polenta I already have, rather than buy any more...budget is tiiiight. Thanks.

Slice it up and fry it, then put it on a baking sheet and top it with whatever you would put on a pizza (sauce, meat, cheese, veg, etc). Bake till the cheese is a bit browned. That's how I always serve premade polenta (sausages and diced olive, yum!).

I used the dried stuff to coat roast potatoes in after par-boiling and before putting in the fat - makes them extra crisp and gorgeous.

I do a gorgeous Lemon Polenta cake with a recipe from Nigella. Very moreish and great for coeliacs.

Fried polenta is bleurgh!

It's gorgeous! I have a pizza-topped Polenta recipe I have used for years. Best thing in the world with a glass of red wine.
