How do I defrost QUICKLY a huge lump of beef?

It's beef chunks for stew, all frozen together. Can't really break it apart. Have put it in a pot, it has softened around the edges, but I need to get on with cooking the stew now, if we are to have it for dinner.

Don't know how to set the microwave for defrosting. Bain mairie?

Help,please.

I dont know can you defost it by cooking it in the microwave a bit with some water?

Pour boiling water on it?

Dracschick · 10/11/2010 15:06

Well, it's too big to put it in the microwave.

Oh, crap. Have nothing else for dinner.

Don't pour boiling water on it as you will start to cook it too quickly and you will toughen the meat.

Put it into a plastic bag and then fill the sink with tepid water, and submerge the bag.

Leave it for a few minutes, and then replace the water (which will have gone cold) with more tepid water.

Keep doing this until the chunks can be broken apart - you can then cook with it like this. Beef doesn't have to be defrosted before you can cook it.

(But make sure you find out how to work your microwave as that is by far the easiest way to do it!)

As far as I know you don't get food poisoning from beef which is why it can be so rare or even eaten raw. Certainly wouldn't recommend it for chicken but I think it should be ok.

Throw it over someones fence.Grin

Put it in a bag, stand on a chair, clear children from the room and throw onto the floor, breaking it into smaller pieces, then under running cold water
