Jess is 13.5 months and has been feeding herself with a spoon or fork for about a month. before this we let her play with a spoon while we fed her with another one! HTH

Two spoons might be the answer ... you have one as well, so that at least some gets shovelled in.

its like a lot of things i guess with little ones its quicker and cleaner to keep doing it myself but i dont really want a ten year old who cant feed herself! got a dh like that! (only joking)

BM - it wont be like that, 9.5 months is still quite tiny, and before you know it, she wont LET you feed her.... and then food really does go everywhere!

Two spoons is the way to go.

TBH, with ds1 I paid attention to the books, with ds2 I put off the mess for as long as possible until he got fed up with me and grabbed the spoon out of my hand and got on with it

They let you know when the really want a go, I think and they don't necessarily read the same books you do....

Hi Buddahmummy.

In my experience my DD was v independent (still is) In fact one of her first sentences was I'll do it.

Chances are she will be ready for it think my DD was about 8 months, I used to have my own bowl of food that i would hide under the feeding chair, but she wouldnt take from my spoon.

I did worry though about the amount she was getting in to be honest

DD started feeding herself from about the Xmas so about 7 months, I was still having a spoon too, but she was so insistant that she wanted to hold it, it was easier to just give her one!

Generally she'd attack it herself for a bit, and then I'd be able to finish when she was done, and actually get some in her mouth.

Very solid child, and never any weight loss
